Special Silhouettes Pieces

Custom jigsaw puzzles are even more significant when they include special pieces such as names, dates, or specific silhouettes.

These personalized figure pieces fit into the puzzle just like other pieces. Words are cursive in style and range from 3/4 inch to two inches in length. Dropout lettering is very effective in sections of the puzzle where the picture is unimportant. These dropout letters are individual and require puzzle pieces between each letter and number to hold the puzzle together. The number of letters per piece varies. For example:

A date (June 15, 1999) would require three pieces.

A short name such as Bob would require one piece, Susan would need two pieces, and Mehitabel would probably take three pieces.

Special figure pieces may include several pieces or just one.

There is a charge of $25 per piece with a minimum charge of $50 per puzzle. Personalized figure pieces take time. Please make allowances before the event, especially at the holiday season.

Guidelines for Choosing a Puzzle Image

Choosing a special image to capture in an heirloom-quality jigsaw puzzle takes some forethought. Here are a few recommendations to get the best results for your custom puzzle.

Send the negative -- if you can find it -- instead of the print. Negatives give sharper results. Lost the negative? Send a large print rather than a snapshot.

A photographic positive (transparency): a transparency is slightly more costly and the image loses one generation of clarity. This requires that we make an inter-negative and print it from that.

A digital image: a high-resolution digital image (600 dpi .tif or .eps file) works fine too. You can send it via e-mail or on a disk.

Non-photographic materials: if your image is original art or original material, we recommend you have it photographed and send the photo to us.

Select an image with subtle contrasts. Since the puzzle-making process accentuates contrasts, particularly between skin color and background, choose a photo with a background only slightly darker or lighter than the subject's complexion.
